The fact was announced to the press by Catherine Samba Panza, after a private meeting with the Angolan president, José Eduardo dos Santos, before the beginning of the Summit of Heads of States or their representatives of the International Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), taking place in Luanda.
Angola, under the President José Eduardo dos Santos, chairs the two-year term of ICGLR since January 2014 and has providing support to CAR, a country that has been involved in inter-religious conflicts as well as other countries in the region so as to end the political or religious disagreement through peaceful means or dialogue, contrary to the armed violence, a factor that disturbs and delays the integration process and the development of the region and the continent itself.
"I spoke with president José Eduardo dos Santos about the current situation in my country, which I consider to be calm with the holding of the political forum that took place on 8-11 May in Bangui, CAR capital, between the different political forces", explained Catherine Samba Panza.
ICGLR was created after the political conflicts that marked the Great Lakes region in 1994, resulting in the recognition of its dimension and the need for a concerted effort aimed at promoting peace and development in the region.
ICGLR comprises Angola (host), Burundi, the Central African Republic (CAR), Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
