Akwa Ibom Traffic Management Agency AKTMA - The wait...

ye

  • Summary: We hope AKTMA is part of the industries promised my our amiable governor sometime ago which he will fulfill as a promise keeper.

    Governor Godwill Obot Akpabio
It was strongly reported that our State Government (“The Governor”) is taking drastic steps to subdue the incessant violation of traffic laws by motorists in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket and other Akwa Ibom Cities, hence the Akwa Ibom State Government has said a bill seeking to establish a traffic management agency has been sent to the State House of Assembly.

The Commissioner for Transport, Godwin Ntukudeh who disclosed this said the bill, would create employment, end illegal parking, reckless driving and other traffic offenses by motorist especially the Tricycle Operators (KEKE). In his words; “The problem we have with tricycle operators is that they assemble within the plaza and cause traffic gridlock. Series of complaints led to their activities to be streamlined and re-directed to routes that will give the city center it own ambience”.

This is a very welcome development as it will create jobs and free our roads for a better businesses movement in our dear state as we seek to enter a new dimension of industrialization. We hope this is part of the industries promised my our amiable governor sometime ago which he will fulfill as a promise keeper. We hope that the officers and men of this agency will be well trained not on the tabloids but on ground to handle the traffic terrain in Akwa Ibom. And ultimately we hope the agency will be commissioned before our Great Akpabio vacate the seat.  :)

As a government they should take clues from other states. For example, Lagos's LASTMA as a relative success and Anambra's ASTA which is a woeful failure.
    Governor Obiano

In Anambra case, the Governor in resumption of office started series of activities to sanitize the state-owned Anambra State Traffic Agency, ASTA, the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, ordered the re-branding of the establishment.

Governor Obiano apparently became worried by the poor image the organization was giving the state administration, the governor also announced the suspension of  the agency’s activities in Ihiala, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and Onitsha. And also announced new name “ASTMA” for them.  :)

I am keeping my fingers crossed and watching Gov. Akpabio in the coming weeks.

This is not the governor bashing post it is an objective post.

    Kindly make objective comments.
