Akwa Ibom state government house sources confirmed the new development stating over 30 hectares of land has already been provided by the government to ensure a smooth take off of the project.
This was made public as a business delegation from Israel storm government house in Uyo to calf out modalities for the project with the state government.
The plant on completion will assemble armored personnel carriers, luxury buses, firefighting engines, rescue vans, riot control vehicles, delivery vans, and other mini buses.
Mr Micha Miksner said, his company Merkavim is happy to invest in Akwa Ibom state and to become a major player in the Nigerian economy. The company will manufacture and export vehicles, security gadgets and other heavy military equipment which will guarantee employment opportunity of about 3, 000 for the people of the state.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who welcomed the business delegation commended their foresight and choice of Akwa Ibom to invest, assuring them that, this was in line with his pledge to industrialize Akwa Ibom State and a very vital part of his Five Point Agenda program for economic and industrial transformation of the States.
It could be recalled that Gov. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel had promised to attract an Armored Personnel Carrier, APC, manufacturing plant to Itu, in February 2015 during his gubernatorial campaign there.
He gave the assurance while briefing the Paramount Ruler of the area, Edidem Dr. Edet Akpan Inyang and Members of Itu Traditional Rulers Council on some of his blueprint for thier area. He told the royal fathers that land has been acquired and compensation paid to land owners in readiness for the takeoff of the manufacturing plant which has got the endorsement of Former President Jonathan.
