    A man suspected drug trafficker dies after he had slumped at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on July 5.

    The dead suspect was an intending passenger of Ethiopian Airline, he was on his way to China en-route Addis, but slumped at the departure hall with an ingested 55 wraps of cocaine. Unclear of what could happen him, he was rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment by the airports officials.

    An NDLEA official at the airport while speaking to newsmen disclosed that the suspect confessed of cocaine ingestion while on the hospital bed.
    “The deceased collapsed at the departure hall and was being attended to by Port Health officials. The collapse triggered our suspicion and a narcotics officer was assigned to monitor the development.” He said.
    The official who is the NDLEA Commandant at Abuja airport, Mr. Hamisu Lawan, also said that he collapsed immediately when he was about to cancel his flight.

     “He collapsed immediately he notified the airline officials of his intention to cancel his trip.
    “At the hospital, 55 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine, with a total weight of 1.20kg, were evacuated from his stomach.” He added.

    The official added that he was handed over to the NDLEA after he had confessed ingestion of cocaine, by the airport hospital authorities.

    In reaction to the latest develop, The NDLEA national boss, Ahmadu Giade, called cocaine ingestion "suicide mission".
    “Ingesting narcotics is a suicide mission. I sympathize with the family members. Drug trafficking is a serious crime.
    “People must shun drug trafficking and support the anti-drug campaign. We must collectively intensify counter-narcotics efforts by talking to at least one person daily on the dangers of drugs and benefits of a drug-free society.” He said.
